Looking Ahead to the New Year with KIDS Center’s Cork & Barrel Benefit – Bend, Oregon Wine Auction Event

The New Year always ushers in a sense of excitement: personal or professional goal setting; rejuvenation after the busy holiday season; or simply settling into the winter wonderland that Central Oregon offers. For KIDS Center, a child abuse intervention center dedicated to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of child abuse, the New Year signals the return of our busy season. We are focused on increasing community support and funds to keep kids safe in Central Oregon. One of the most significant ways we raise money for KIDS Center is through the Cork & Barrel fundraising benefit, held every summer in Bend.

The annual, three-day Cork & Barrel wine & food extravaganza raises 25% of the total operating budget for KIDS Center. We are so very fortunate to live in a region that cherishes the good life – Cork & Barrel is right up the alley of many of our residents with it’s focus on great wine, fabulous food, and bringing wine country to Central Oregon. Each year, Cork & Barrel focuses on a different wine region. We are busy securing up to 18 different wineries for the 2017 Cork & Barrel, to be held July 20-22, 2017 at Broken Top Club in Bend. This year, we are featuring “A Taste of the Pacific Northwest,” with wineries coming from the Willamette ValleyColumbia Gorge, and Walla Walla wine AVAs (American Viticultural Areas). We are over-the-moon excited about the quality of the producers we already have lined up. And as icing on the Cork & Barrel cake, the Willamette Valley was recently named the 2016 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

KIDS Center is an all-encompassing service built, literally, by the community and for the community. KIDS Center offers education to prevent child abuse and is instrumental in the intervention in cases of child abuse. Direct services offered, at no cost, to every child who walks through the door, include:

  • Child-friendly forensic interviews
  • Head-to-to medical exams
  • Family support
  • Individual, group, and family therapy and support groups

The direct costs to provide the child abuse evaluation, alone, are $2800 per child. KIDS Center has 27 employees in part-time and full-time admin, medical, therapeutic, executive, and development roles. KIDS Center serves more than 2500 children and their families in Central Oregon every year. The annual operating budget is $2.5 MM and this number continues to rise as both the population and need for our services increases in Central Oregon. The Cork & Barrel benefit raises 25% of the annual operating budget in three, jam-packed days that include private winemaker dinners, the fun and educational A Sip of Cork & Barrel evening, and the exciting Grand Cru gala fundraiser event to cap it all off. Cork & Barrel is recognized as THE wine and food event in Central Oregon and raised $500,000 in 2016!

Early bird tickets to A Sip of Cork & Barrel on Friday, July 21 are on sale for $75/pp if purchased before April 1st and can be purchased via our website. Be on the lookout for winery and guest chef and restaurant announcements, winemaker dinners not to be missed, and other details regarding the 2017 Cork and Barrel benefit happening this July 20-22 at Broken Top Club in Bend!
